5 Key Steps to Prepare for Elections

01

Verify Your Voter Registration

Make sure you are registered to vote at your current address, and update any name changes or moves. Many states allow online registration, same-day registration, or updates before deadlines.

02

Know Your Voting Options & Deadlines

Learn whether your state offers early voting, mail-in/absentee ballots, or in-person voting only. Note when ballots must be requested, returned, or postmarked.

03

Research What’s on Your Ballot

Study the candidates, ballot measures, and issues before election day. Use voter guides, sample ballots, or candidate comparison tools to make informed choices.

04

Make a Voting Plan

Decide when, where, and how you will vote (mail, early, or in person). Identify your polling place, check hours, plan your route, and ensure you have any required identification.

05

Know Your Rights & Be Ready to Vote

Understand your state’s voter ID rules, polling location rules, and rights if there are issues (e.g. provisional ballots). Bring acceptable ID, arrive early, and know what to do if you encounter problems.
